A member who is temporarily or permanently unable to pursue the medical/veterinarian profession due to a physical infirmity or weakness of the physical or mental forces may apply for a pension in the event of incapacity for work (Section 30 SSÄV).

When is an incapacity to work?

The precondition for the existence of an incapacity to work is the inability to work within the entire medical/veterinarian profession. It does not therefore depend on the member’s last specific (specialist/respecting) activity. At the same time, a pension case within the meaning of the statutes requires complete incapacity for work. Graduation or partial incapacity is not foreseen.

When does the pension start and when does the pension end?

The supply is due at the earliest on the day on which the application for a BU’s allowance is received by the utility company (inbox stamp). A pension in the case of a permanent BU is converted into a compulsory old-age pension upon reaching the standard age limit. Temporary disability is recognised for a limited period of time. A request for continuation may be made before the expiry of the time limit.

A voluntary grant for the costs of rehabilitation may be granted upon application for medically indicated rehabilitation measures if they are capable of obtaining, substantially improving or restoring their professional capacity (Section 36 SSÄV).

The application for assistance for rehabilitation must be submitted before the start of the measure. All other eligible beneficiaries, such as health insurance, statutory pension insurance, etc., must be clarified by the member.

Widow's / widower's allowance are paid to surviving spouses of a deceased member if the marriage has existed until the death of the member (Section 33 SSÄV).

There is no entitlement to widow/widow benefit if the marriage has only been concluded after the member’s permanent incapacity for work or after being admitted to the early retirement pension or after reaching the member’s standard age limit.

The widow/widower pension is paid by us independently of our own income or pensions from other insurance institutions of the survivors.

An orphan’s allowance is paid upon application for the children of a member until the age of majority or in the case of studies, vocational training, voluntary service, or incapacity for work, up to the age of 27 (Section 34 SSÄV).

In case of permanent incapacity, please submit appropriate medical certificates.

If there is no valid evidence of formal qualifications for the following month by the 10th of the current month, payment must be discontinued at the end of the month.

Upon application for each child up to the age of majority, säv retiree receives a child benefit amounting to 10 % of the paid pension (Section 32 SSÄV).

Child benefit as a supplement to the pension is not equivalent to the state child benefit. The person entitled to the child allowance at the Saxon medical care is always the pensioner himself. As an employed part of the pension, it is also subject to taxation in accordance with the Income Tax Act.
